Life After The Hollow

 "The Heart's Mirage" -- A Reissue

Hiya.... looking for something to post tonight.... and dont have anything to bring..... I guess I will share a poem that I havent put out there too much.... it's been a long dry spell with the poetry.... I need to write again........ this is from last Winter but was written in the Spring of 2005.

.

.

"The Heart's Mirage"

You were my blossom in the sands
The desolate wastes of the empty quarter
You left me and my outstretched hand
and took yourself beyond the borders....

of this empty place
An awesome wide open space
To find the heavenly voices that called you.....

into this desert wasteland
Where you knelt in the sand and prayed
Just like the ancients did before too

The cruel sun ravaging your face
The wind on the dunes
leaving no trace
of your passionate pilgrimage
to the secret holy place

I watched the sunset for your
silhouette
But you never returned to me
I scanned the endless hope filled horizon
and thought of where you might be......

In an oasis in the valley of death
the cool water washing your skin
as you worship in the Garden of Eden
will you remember me and then.....

return across the dunes
the way that you came
You will follow your heart
and return to the flame

of the one that watches for you
through every long night
There has been no word
There has been no sight

of my lost desert angel
alone in the vast sea
of hot rock and sand
Each step blistering

And so I succumb to the
Sirens of the desert
and I am now lost here in the dunes
I cry out into the Arabian night
but there is no echoing cry from you

I promised to search forever
but I fear the time is coming soon
to fall into a thirsty sleep
alone, in a broiling rocky tomb

At the moment of my passing I finally see
you and I in an oasis of tropical green
Splashing and laughing in the heart's promised land
or is this just another cruel mirage in this shimmering, hopeless
sea of sand.....

 The Car Radio.......

So..... hi, first of all...

Um.... my car died this week and has been in the shop...... so Secret has been kind enough to loan me her spare van so I can get around to work and whatnot....... but I usually have my cd player in my car to listen to.... and now I dont have it.... so, my alternative is to tune into the radio stations for my music edification....... yikes!

I have spent the last few days checking out the FM music scene like I havent done in years!

My thoughts are as follows...... I dunno... I feel like the music scene is kinda bad right now..... I dont hear very much new music that is very good and I have gotten sucked into the mindless pop that the masses sate themselves with....... but there are a few things that stand out in my mind...

FERGIE..... "Big Girls Dont Cry".... a decent song with a most overused chord progression, but that is undeniably catchy..... I have heard the song a million times now, but I like the way it was produced and it sounds good to my ears.... the same way a cheese puff tastes good to my tongue.... it aint good for me but it gives me a short burst of satisfaction... and then guilt.

I hate to admit it but the recent MAROON 5 album is pretty good.... the songs are tight and dont really sound like anything else out there right now.... so I give them props for keeping it real and original in this, the day and age of cookie cutter bands and sounds....

I think the last two singles from PINK are the best songs out there right now..... full of great hooks and good vibes for me.... I give her kudos..... I am impressed! :)

ALICIA KEYES is also great. Damn..... she just bleeds talent out her pores.... Lord, have mercy. I might be in love!

Um...... country radio is full of crap right now but I have heard some good things from the duo, SUGARLAND.... I might even buy their CD....... AFTER I get the new Carrie Underwood CD..... Lord, forgive me for that.... I want my car, my CD player and my CDS back! I have lost it...... she's good, but I dont need to be buying that stuff. It might give me acne.

..... and as far as the classic rock stations?

Woe to me, friends.... I have heard all these songs sooooo many times! If I hear STYX again, I will kill myself and I will take a puppy with me, so....... tell them NOT to play any more STYX!

*shudder*

Ok, well, this journey through radio land has been hard on me but it has been interesting,.... the same way that a massive pile up on the interstate is to passing motorists!

I just want my car back and I want my GENESIS live bootlegs, RADIOHEAD, and NORA JONES back and all will be right with the world.

Peace and love to ya!!

 Elvis Rewires...

Hi.

Um.... well, I have become popular with the crazy people who come into my store.... the one legged woman asks for me now........ that's sweet..... except that she's nuttier than a manatee on stilts.... she claims to be King Herod's great great grandaughter and she says that she wears his crown and has the sword she pulled from his body. I just smile and nod....... Oh, and then the Elvis guy came in yesterday too...... all sideburns and dropping lines from Elvis songs.... he looks like Elvis... I guess..... just trashier...... and he says he REALLY is Elvis! *shrug* I got bogged down with him for half an hour as he told me how he was rewiring his house and I am standing there thinking..... "This guy thinks he's Elvis... and he's REWIRING his house?"

I wonder if he owns a fire extinguisher?

There's others.... which I will share about............ in time..... I love many of the guys up at my work.... and it's been nice having some guy friends for a change........ as I have always had lots of female friends but just a handful of guy friends..... so it's cool.

btw.... my cell is OUT of minutes so for those who I like to chat with, I'll have to cool it until the 20th! DOH!

*cold sweats*

 A Squirrely reissue!

I was going back through my blog and reading some things today..... I remember in it's salad days it was mostly just about my little life in the Hollow and I especially enjoyed writing about my observations of these goofy squirrels that drove me (The Yard Czar) to the brink of insanity.... so from June, 2006.... a post called "This Squirrel Has Nuts!"

.

.

Hiya.

So, I am alone today and have been doing some odd jobs and this and thats around the house. I was doing the dishes and our sink faces out a window to the back with a clear view of the going's on. I had noticed that those damned squirrels had once again chewed through the line of a feeder and it had dropped to the ground because our squirrels are too damn lazy to even work for what they steal. Going back to the sink I saw 5 of the huge blackbirds pecking around on the ground by where the feeder was now sitting on the ground. I guess they ran out of baby birds and eggs and their usual fare and were just settling for feed this afternoon, and they were gathered in a sorry looking group just doing their thing. I sneered and went back to the dishes and then suddenly, out of the woods a squirrel comes running out at full speed into the pack of blackbirds! The birds all jumped into the air and moved back about 6 feet from where this aggressive squirrel was guarding what he was stealing fair and square! He jumped up on a little stump and fluttered his tail, obviously in quite a snit. Then he scampered back into the brush. In a perfect cartoon world, the blackbirds would have just looked at eachother and said "Are we gonna let this persnickity tree rat make us look more like lazy fools than we already do?", but I KNOW that's what they were thinking. So, they eased back in on the squirrel who shot back out of the bushes and was wildly gesticulating (That's right. My squirrels can wildly gesticulate!) at the blackbirds who were a little more unnerved at this point as they eased back even further and one of them even flew off in embarrassment. This squirrel stood out proudly in front of the feeder this time and shook his tail in a very similar fashion to the "Quick Booty Shake" like the chicks in the Rap videos. I mean, he was worked up and REPRESENTIN'!!!

I kind of felt proud of the squirrel to stand up to these predatory birds, and 5 of them at that.

Then I remembered that the squirrel is the Yard Czar's nemesis and I just grew tired of the whole thing..... I knocked at the window, which sent the blackbirds and the squirrel quickly on their way and was happy to see the supposedly brave squirrel exposed for the charlatan tree rat that he really is. "Oh, so ya don't have the nuts (pun intended) to stand up to the ALL POWERFUL, big bad, Full of fury, YARD CZAR, doing his "honey-do's" do ya, ya little devil?" I said as I moved on to folding clothes.

*shrug*

NOW, I get to go out and fix that feeder again, but I WILL watch out for this squirrel with big kahunas, so he doesn't jump on my head from a tree and my neighbors are rewarded to see me spinning around wildly, looking like Daniel Boone on crack, but with a LIVE coonskincap.
