Life After The Hollow

 Junk Food And A Gullywasher...

Well, another Thursday and another day off... I have little LuLu with me today.... it's not just a job... it's an adventure.

....and being a responsible LuLu watcher I decided to go to the little country store to get lunch...... she had a beef jerky cheese stick combo with a Dr. Pepper and dill pickle chips AND a cookies and cream Hersheys for dessert! I had a VERY hot and spicy bag of cajun pork rinds and an energy drink! WOOT!

The drive back (2 minutes long) was fun as I was her hero for buying her all that garbage to eat and we blasted the White Stripes on the stereo! WOOT!

Then a good ole fashion gully washer blew up right over the hollow and we were treated to a good thunder, lightning and rain show...

I set the camera to a mode where it would catch the raindrops in motion and got an interesting effect... and well, LuLu is one of my favorite subjects to photograph...

A good Thursday, folks!

 Dog Shit

I'm tired of dog shit.

I have had the lovely job of cleaning up creamy piles (globs) of dog shit the last two mornings before the clock even struck 6 AM.

GRRRRRR!

Secret is keeping Snowball the poodle for her mama right now and the dog takes it's potty breaks in the kitchen during the night.... I am the first one up so it falls on me to clean the crap up...

Man! I need more coffee!

... and a barf bag!

 Flowers..... and more flowers....

Hiya Streamers!

So..... the gardening experience this year has been rather dull due to the severe drought, but these last couple of weeks have brought some rain and some relief to the lawn and flower bed.... I couldnt even tell you what kind of flowers these are, but they made for some interesting subjects to photograph this afternoon between rain showers.......so I hope you enjoy these!

 Rain, Ruminations, And Racoons

...... and so I am awakened in the dark of this early Summer morning by the sound of rain thundering on the roof of the Hollow house.... it was a fretful sleep anyhow so I decided to just get up..... 4 in the morning.... an hour earlier than wake up time on a work day.... I pour a cold cup of yesterday's coffee and go out into the carport to watch the deluge.... rain....such a beautiful thing.... the sound of a heavy rain in the deep woods is a truly unique sound..... countless drops of water cascading across countless thirsty leaves..... a majestic symphony to anyone who cares enough to take the time to listen.....and being a natural worrying soul I let this atmosphere draw me deep into my troubled heart.... reflecting on my unhappiness.... I miss my son.... I miss my family in Dallas......I am dispirited...I am blinded to any of the good things in my life...... I could just begin to sense myself starting to spiral into a good sobbing cry.... a real pitiful mess of myself..... crying in the middle of the night in a rainstorm.... a moment that any true depressed poet lives for..... and then.... something in my sight distracts me from my self inflicted torture..... something rambling through the woods..... a rabbit? no... too big...... I strain my eyes to see.... and then..... I see..... an enormous raccoon and her 4 youngsters clumsily ambling through the trees to the birdfeeders.... a sharp whispered exclamation shoots from my lips and a big smile comes to my face... ruining my big emotional breakdown....my own corn-pone punchline sent on a rainy night to remind me of the simple joys I find in life.. the coons mill around the feeders for a while and then one of the babies sees me and gives the alarm... sending the whole brood and the mother quickly back into the dark of the watery woods... gone forever......... the weird irony of the little event sinks into that part of me that is still quite alive and kicking..... I take a last big gulp of cold coffee.... shake off the doom and gloom and head inside to write......

Happy Sunday, friends!
