Life After The Hollow

 I Am A Highpointer!

Hiya Streamer beamers!

I hope everyone had a good weekend... I have been here very little over the last few days but I am checking in to share my latest craze...

I have become a "county highpointer"!

*fanfare*

Now... I can sense the collective "Huh? What in the world has he gotten into NOW?"

That's ok. I'll explain... there is an organization of geography nuts like myself who have a website that tells all about their pursuit of reaching the highest elevation in every single county in the United States.... that's ALOT of counties.... the site breaks the whole thing down by counties and there are "reports" given of when and how that particular county was bagged... and there are firm rules about how it is to be done....and there are lots of issues like property rights, savage dogs (always the dogs, I tells ya!), impassable underbrush, loose crumbly and dangerous paths, and bad maps to deal with... one has to PROVE they were there to some extent... but if you are not the first one to bag a county then you COULD cheat, but hell, who would even waste their time doing that in such a rediculous esoteric hobby such as this?

I bagged my first county after work on Saturday night...my home county in Alabama... I didnt have my map or my info from online but I had studied up on where to go to such an extent that I didnt need any of that... the place I had to go was on government land and off limits to the public for nearly a 100 years but had been opened back up as a wildlife preserve in the last year or so... so I took my Honda up and up and up and over bumpy roads into the mountains and I went to the exact place I needed to be...then a short scramble up some lichen covered rocks and.. bingo!..I broke my highpointing cherry...so to speak!

It was great in a way that only a guy like me who reads road atlases on the toilet can fully appreciate.... now, I have 60 something more counties in this state to bag and I will be getting somewhere in life. I have all my maps and other materials ready to go and will hopefully get this little mission completed over the next couple of years.

So, yes... I'm a dork, but apparently I have found some kindred souls out there who are in to the same weird things I am in to.

Life is grand, aint it?

 A Positive Obssesion?

Hiya Streamers!

Well, I have been back at work for nearly two weeks now and things are going swimmingly in my life for the first time in a while.... I feel MUCH better than I did back in the Spring and I am looking forward to looking better too.

I have been walking around wondering why I haven't been miraculously shedding weight and I've been bugging Secret with... "Hey? Am I looking better yet?" ...then an hour later.. "Hey? Am I looking better yet?"

Well, I was checking myself out today for progress (as usual) and I have noticed a definite change in my muscle tone... It's finally happening. I just couldn't imagine moving tens of thousands of pounds of stuff and not getting in better shape!

I just need to be patient. One prob is... I'm not really too overweight to begin with so it's not like I'm gonna notice lots of pounds dropping off... I just need to lose a little bit of belly....

...and tone up.

I look kind of soft.

I don't want to seem so shallow but I think looking like I take care of myself will help me along in other aspects of my life as well...

All this fuss is because I will turn 40 in September and I want to go into that decade of my life firing on all cylinders.... it's the raging insecurites at work again.

So, at least it's a positive obssession.... kind of like the walking I do....as long as I dont overdo, It can only be a positive thing.

I have a long way to go but I am pleased that all this hard work is paying off in more ways than just a regular paycheck.

Peace!

A Photo Reissue.... some of my favorites.

I know. I know... I'm the king of the reissues...but I was looking at my gallery tonight and I thought I might reissue a few photos that I haven't shared in a while... I hope not too recently anyway... Some of these may not be my very best work but they are some of my personal favorites taken over the years...

So, thanks for letting me share them again.

This shot was taken a mere 200 miles away from the Hollow, but at 6000 feet the climate and vegetation is similar to Canada's. Lovely in July!

.

I took this shot one morning on the Tennessee River. One of my very favorites.

.

This is some seaweed that I photographed on the beach at Destin, Florida.

.

This is a 15 year old photo that I took at Sabine Pass, Texas. Another fave of mine.

.

This was taken on New Years Day 2005 for a book of photos I put together as a gift to my brother.

.

I always love shooting in The Great Smoky Mountains and I think this is a bit of a different shot from the things I normally shoot up there.

.

This is a photo I have shared several times...but I love it...shot right in the Hollow garden.

That's all folks!

Cheers!
